Karlheinz Stockhausen - Helikopter Quartet (2000)

this composition from German new music godfather Stockhausen is for a "double quartet" of 4 helicopters and 4 strings, balls-ily performed here by the best-in-the-world Arditti Quartet. each player performs while being flown around with movements and rotor speeds dictated by the score. gestures are tightly controlled, but the sound world is just as raw and angular as you'd expect. lots of textures for fans of drone and noise, and enough creepy surprises for everybody else. oh, and did i mention they're flying around in fucking helicopters, like Dethklok?
