Astronautalis - Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters (2006)

Sup musicfriends. Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters is the second (I think it's the second anyway) release from the musical genius Astronautalis. If you've frequented this blog for a while you probably have the album Pomegranate, which I posted several months ago. Pomegranate has a sort of optimistic mood to it, and is more about painting incredibly vivid portraiture whereas this one is definitely a lot darker-themed and more introspective rather than flashy. The instrumentals are really chill in this album, even though the lyrical content is often times more melancholy or self critical to even outright morbid as in the case of Short Term Memory Loss:

"You're turning off your course again,
The fall would kill a stronger man,
With hungry headlights closing in,
St. John is looking welcoming
Death is always closer than
Death is always closer than all your friends
Death is closer than we think
He's closer than your friends and things"

If you're a fan of introspective, often times depressing lyricism you will love this album. Even if you are a happy-go-lucky person there is a lot of merit in this album apart from its sadness. I think there's something in this one for everyone. Definitely get this shit.
