V/A - Folk Songs of Canada Now (2011)

Really great collection of folk field recordings, as compiled by Henry Adam Svec, and performed by some of Canada's better known musical talents (such as Olenka Krakus, Laura Barrett and Wax Mannequin).

It's presented less like an album, and more like an academic study, with extensive and informative background information and a free download available on the project's website, which I highly recommend taking a look at. (Fun fact, if you're a fan of Kate Beaton's webcomic Hark! A Vagrant, she's done all the art for this project as well.)

Enjoy, eh

this is bullcrap. This is not canadian because there not even one french song. Believe me, this is not folk songs from canada. But if you want to make it true, then Québec has to be a country!!! One day I hope!! we gonna be free of english people!!! yeah!!

I know, it's very exclusively anglo-centric, and I was disappointed to see no francophone representation.

Are there any Québécois folk compilations you'd recommend?

Pardon me sir, but could you rephrase that in French ? or is it that you prefer to use the English language to convey your message like some artists also do ?
