Harry Lookofsky - Stringsville (1958)

This is the greatest jazz violin album of all time. It is a flabbergastingly complex exercise in one-man overdubbing almost before the concept existed. Harry Lookofsky wanted a big band of strings, so he orchestrated and performed it all himself. However, the solos were written out as well, which was a distinctly un-hip thing to do in the '50s bop scene, so this album never got the recognition it deserved.

Like they say, if you want it done right, do it yourself...

    Thanks!
    I rather like it.

  2. Thanks for the share, it just came to my attention cause of the bassist, Paul Chambers. That's a bizarre concept to try and live out, can't wait to listen to it.
