Transcending Bizarre? - The Four Scissors (2003)

Transcending Bizarre? is an avant-garde black metal band from Greece. Their music is as the name suggests, bizarre. They combine elements of opera/classical with black metal to create a musical tapestry of wonderment and intrigue. This is not your average kvlt BM. I would recommend this to those who enjoy music that is out of the ordinary. Enjoy.

Loom - Angler (2007)

Angler is a very refreshing and interesting debut release and the experimentation shown throughout the album shows the band had little fear upon entering the studio. The violin is an integral component of the bands sound and sticks out even amongst the frenzied drumming and dizzying, angular guitar work. There is never a dull moment on Angler, as Loom is constantly bombarding the listener with their intricate guitar work, explosive percussion and emotion laden screaming and shouting.

Black Elk - Always A Six, Never A Nine (2008)

Hey everybody! Sorry that I've not been posting much lately, I've been uhhh......doing absolutely nothing. But now that I'm done doing absolutely nothing, I have an album for you. I got this album two years ago and for whatever reason I didn't post it, so here's to making up for that.

Black Elk is a noise rock/experimental band. This is their second album to date I believe. The first, you can download here, which I recommend starting with. Their music is spasmodic and often times feels like an alcohol deprived boozehound is shouting his inane truths at you, and sometimes there is a moment of lucidity where the music takes on a more straight-laced approach and then shit hits the fan again. This is an album for those who are easily bored. While not as structured as their previous release, this is an enjoyable one. Recommended for fans of hard rock/sludge/etc.

oh. also, does anyone know of any good books to read? I don't really have a lot of criteria other than that the book is not a romance novel or too sci-fi. thanks.

Zefs Chasing Cara - Kneel And You Will Lose (2010)

New EP from this dude. His music really doesn't sound like anything else. Multitracked proggy tapped goodness with occasional vocals and synths. Lots of surprises, lots of twiddle, lots of fun.

Winterphonic - Spirals (2010)

Winterphonic hail from Graz, Austria. The Duo Emanuel Jauk performs a style of trip hop-a-tronic music, not that different from Massive Attack. Jazz influenced deep beats and breaks behind the quiet and soulful voice of singer Adina. Spirals is their debut album, and is freely available to download from their myspace.

The Olivia Tremor Control - Music from and Unrealized Film Script, Dusk At Cubist Castle (1996)

there really isn't a lot to say about this album other than it is fucking great. a perfect mixture of pop and psychedelic experiments(emphasis on "experiments"), this album has sounds that we will probably never hear again, as corny as that sounds. really unique instrumentation, super good production, and the sound is really just a great mixture of all the members'(and of the other 20 or so contributors) sound.

And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watch You From Afar (2009)

And So I Watch You From Afar's convoluted sound blends playful, yet soundscaping mathy-post rock crescendos, and fat crushing Boston hardcore drops together well enough that it doesn't seem like a contradiction. Also included is a 8 track bonus disc with 3 live tracks, and original demo.

Kids With Moustache - The Rest of Andromeda (2010)

kids with moustache is the musical project of mexican weirdo juan antonio lopez, the rest of andromeda is his debut EP and includes some sweet tunes for fans of freak folk, ambient and experimental music. prob one of the freshest acts on the mexican underground scene. get it now you won't regret it.

PS. miss u tobias funke.

The Notwist -Neon Golden (2002)

In all honesty, the best way to describe the Notwist themselves is as an amalgam of all the different sounds and sensibilites embodied by the musician's side projects. What started out as an oft-ferocious, distortion heavy, punk infused project in 1990 has evolved at this point to a band indebted to more styles of music that you can count on one hand. While on paper a combination of dub, drum ‘n’ bass, IDM, the occasional banjo, jazz, chamber strings, and strong guitar fueled melodies seems like it might result in a tangled morass of sounds and styles, the Notwist pull off this combination without so much as a stutter.

Secret Chiefs 3-Book M (2001)

One of my all-time favorites.
Heavy middle-eastern influence, with the occasional beats or metal guitar thrown in.

Some of these guys were in some band with some guy, and they also have some other band.

Achilles - Hospice (2007)

Achilles manages to pump out punishing noise rock, and trades off for melodic, intricate...almost soundscaping moments. The album is progressive, great dynamics, good production value and is very accessible to people unfamiliar with the genre. Fits well as a soundtrack to a 40 car pile up. Takes influence from Botch, Cave-In, and Isis, among other early Hydra Head bands.

B. Dolan - Fallen House, Sunken City (2010)

B(ernard). Dolan is a hip-hop artist. Furthermore, he is dope. I'll leave the rest to the lyrics. The beats are solid/tested/approved. You know what to do, fool.

Ratatat rap remixes featuring Kanye West, G-Unit, Method Man, Brooklyn Zoo, Jay-Z, Ghostface, T.I, Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Notorious B.I.G. and more.

Fuck it, here's LP4 again. Fuckers take my links down daily.

We Have Band - WHB (2010)

you can all stop whining now.

LakeTrout-Another One Lost (2002)

Lake Trout started out with a jazz/jam-band fusion type of sound, then later moved on to a more electronic/rock sound ( which I totally prefer). This is the first album that explored the rock & electronic mix. Some of the members are also in a band called Big In Japan, that is currently acting as the the touring band for UNKLE, so I would say if you dig Unkle, then there is a good chance that you'll dig this.

Ratatat - Beats (2006)

[download...]
[lp4 was down again...]

Ratatat produces some pretty mean beats, with their signature style still intact. Shame, the album is very short, 9 loops, roughly 2 minutes each. There are also two remix albums, featuring raps by kanye west, dirt mcgirt, jay-z and an on going list of others over the beats on this album. I'll post these, only by request, and only after JC changes the layout back. WFLW was never funny. Until then, good bye internet.

1, 4 and 6 are diesel.

Russian Circles - Geneva

With the release of Geneva Russian Circles have cemented themselves in the music community. Not quite post-metal, and not quite post-rock, the music speaks for itself. Their debut showed an up and coming band struggling to find their footing, and their sophomore record taking a completely new approach, Geneva masterfully combines everything the band has done into a near-perfect package.
Proudly shared in v0. Fuck yall's 192kbps.

HEALTH - DISCO2 (2010)

tobacco's remix isn't as heavy and aggressive as his new album, small black's remix is usual chillwave shit, gold panda's remix is spacey beat shit, crystal castles' remix is meth, salem's remix is usual witch house bullshit, the rest aren't worth mentioning/too lazy to say anything

A.M. Architect - The Road to the Sun (2009)

A masterful collaboration between Aether (Diego Chavez) and Magic Note (Daniel Stanush), The Road to the Sun is a groovily chilled out album, with a warm, enveloping tone; diverse sounds and instruments; a funky vibe; and yes, still quite inspired beats. Expect the same level of dankhood.

Enjoy. I know you will.

Tangled Hair - First (2010)

[download...]

Catchy soft mathpop from Big Scary Monsters label (This Town Needs Guns, Meet Me In St. Louis, BlakFish). Reminds me of early Foals.
Last.fm says they have a total of 440 listeners right now. Raise that number for me.

The Frosted Ambassador - The Frosted Ambassador (1999)

side project of eric harris(drummer for the olivia tremor control), the frosted ambassador is one of the better ones, at least in my opinion. the percussion is superb, and the experimentation was just fitting. really great and fun album. the sound could be described as experimental baroque jazz folk, but there would be too many to name, so ignore that(plus genres are bullshit). it's good, i swear!

(also, lolitrolu with megaupload jc)

Sleigh Bells - Treats (2010)

i don't know why this picture is small, it's supposed to be 350x350 what the shit

pretty sure everyone has heard this by now, whatevz. it's good, you all know sleigh bells are good.

Drive Like Jehu - Self Titled (1991)

[download...]

Pitchfork was a fine enough band, but whatever happened between those days and the launch of Drive Like Jehu made the newer group a quantum leap forward, as this gripping album demonstrates. Some math and noise influence brought this band the recognition they deserved, but not as much as their second album, Yank Crime.

Converge - Jane Doe (2001)

[preorder on vinyl...]

Few albums have such a fulfilling effect after listening to, especially within this genre. From start to finish, Jane Doe is full of liveliness and astonishing variations among each track. This album left me wanting more and more of what Converge was, and what they had to offer.

The Microphones - "The Glow" pt. 2 (2001)

i figure some of you may have already listened to this album, but it is just really that great. all the elements that are thrown in here mix so well together with phil elverum's style, that is just surpasses simple influence into something new. the glow pt 2 is a folk-ish grunge-y distorted fuzzed out album with some great musicianship holding it all together. fans of noise and sound-collages may also get a joy out of this album, and anybody who enjoyed the seattle scene can also befriend it. oh, and if you like folk too. actually, even if you mildly like fantastic production, download this.

NoMeansNo - Wrong (1989)

My apologies for my extended absence. I've been up to my eyeballs in work, but now that all that is done and finals are over, I've got some free time on my hands. I hope I wasn't missed too much. Or at all.

Anyhoo, here is some weird-ass punk, described by some as "progressive punk." I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, but NoMeansNo certainly has a spastic, mathy, avant-garde kind of sound to them. It's punk, but with the added insanity, technicality, and togetherness of a seasoned prog band. It's a paradox, really. You should probably check it out. I took a break from a month long King Crimson binge for this, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

Pelican - What We All Come To Need (2009)

What We All Come to Need has taken it not a step further than City of Echoes, but a step more inside that aesthetic. The concentration here is on songwriting rather than riffing. There is a decidedly more melodic bent here than on any of the band's previous releases. It's also heavier, if that's possible...

The Books - Thought For Food (2002)

Melodic. Experimental. Ambient. Samples. Acoustic. Jaunty. Unique. Joyous. Electronic. Contemplative. Strings. Instrumental.

Here's one for all you motherless bastards.

TheMelvins-TheBrideScreamedMurder(2010)

Another oddity coming from one of my favorite rock bands of all time. Again, with the dudes from Big Business. I haven't listened to it enough times to get a proper opinion of it, so share your thoughts in the comments...

Hurray For the Riff Raff - Crossing the Rubicon (2007)

Hurray For the Riff Raff is a folk band out of New Orleans, Louisiana. Their music takes you back to the colonial days where there were cajuns and slaves and whathaveyou. The music is wholesome and soulful. Sweltering southern ballads sung by a truly down south female vocalist. Fans of early Iron & Wine should really dig this. I really love this album. Download this album and support the artist by buying their merchandise at their website.

TEARIST - CDR (2009)

life is a mystery.

///▲▲▲\\\ - CDR (2010)

the tags on this are a fucking mess. 5 tracks have names, no one knows what the other two are called but then maybe none of the tracks have names since the release has no tracklist. then this fucking album won't scrobble to last.fm for some reason. it's so annoying like wow, i can't even tell yall. if anyone can fix this leave a comment don't be bitches.
