Týr - By the Light of the Northern Star (2009)

Grab a sword and a flagon of mead, folks, because the Faroe Island's premiere Viking metal band (well, probably their only well known one) is at it again with their latest album "By the Light of the Northern Star." Týr is known for their catchy, fist pumping melodies as well as their dedication to the folk traditions of the Faroe Islands, Denmark, Iceland, and Scandinavia in general. There is some repetition, especially in the metallified folk songs, but overall, this is an incredibly solid release from a band that still stands out in the viking/folk metal world.

Also the cover shows an armor-clad Viking chopping a fucking cross in half with his sword. What reason do you have to NOT get this?

Not bad, but the vocals especially leave me pretty underwhelmed. Amon Amarth is where it's at for viking vocals, though I'm sure they're pretty processed.
