Much like their other groups, Baroness is as sludgy as any Pelican/Cult of Luna clone, but they did a lot to get that 8.5 on pitchfork. HAHA.
They play a nice mix of progressive sludge metal that is balanced out with acoustic folk, dad rock. The instrumental parts played aren't always metal, or even close to it (see; Blackpowder Orchard). It's dynamics are fun to pay attention to as the music transfers between these sweeping changes. As one part begins to change, another lines up to do the same. Baroness seems to "get" what all these other stoner metal groups are missing. Whatever they do, they earn points for the spontaneousness. Also tits.
