He Can Jog is Erik Schoster. Erik has, for the last five years, set his trombone and staff paper aside for clicks of the trackpad, scrapes on metal, and twists of knobs. He alternates his time between carving beats for the milwaukee trio cedar a.v., pulling drones as he can jog, and collaborating with laptop-guitarist bryan teoh.
This is a little compilation I made for my own amusement. I guess you guys can download it too if you want, or whatever. When playing live, Portishead very rarely stray from their album material. So rather than have fifty copies of Dummy, I collected some of the notably different pieces from their lengthy career. There are a couple of Dummy Versions (Very, very early versions of tracks that ended up on the second album), a seven minute version of Strangers, some instrumental cuts from a DJ gig they did in '95, and some other miscellany. If this is the least interesting thing you've ever heard, screw you. Its for Portishead nerds only. I have enough for a P2, but it takes a long time and the Portishead website only provided me with album art for P and P3.

No I don't intend to inundate you with ADULT., but I hope to gradually share as many of their ridiculously unheard-of EPs as I can find. This, ADULT.'s first ever release, is a kind of concept album about chairs (I'm not even kidding), and is one of the most stripped-down, straightforward albums they ever produced. The vocals play between exhaustion and menace, though in the proceeding ten years they have drifted steadily towards the latter. Enjoy this slice of pre-Rescusitation histoy. The E-Side on this EP, The Missing, might be one of my favorite ADULT. songs of all time.

Newish EP from the Kills. Features the title track, which was one of the better songs from the (mostly lackluster) third album, as well as two new songs that sound much more like their early work. Musically, it's quite a few steps back, which is a big leap forward in terms of quality. I'm almost interested in this band's output again.
This album sounds like a weird fusion of Cult of Luna (2 of its members are in this band), Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Aeon Spoke, and maybe Tool. I hesitate to call it "post rock", since it's fairly straightforward, melancholic metal. The music contains your typical downtuned CoL sludgey riffs, but the vocals are more akin to those of Thom Yorke and Jonsi Birgisson. Throw in some great melodies and the fact that the songs are only about 4 minutes long, and you've got yourself a very listenable post rock/metal album. Check it out.
Black Horse are a rock duo based in the deepest forests of Brooklyn, which has been *the* music scene for the past year or so. It's hard to explain why I like them so much. The sludgey blues guitars, easy-to-swallow hooks and male-female ping pong vocals just make such a great combination. This is their debut, self-released album, and they already have another one recorded and in production. This won't rock your world, but its insanely listenable and Black Horse receive far less attention than they deserve. So if you like this, do me a favour and buy their sophomore album whenever it hits.

I don't know if Jackson was trying to reference J Dilla's Donuts when he chose the album art for his 2007 masterwork, but the comparison is certainly apropos. In place of the soul singers and vintage synths, Oxperiment features a blend of warped middle-eastern hooks and traditional mediterranean music. If that sounds like a recipe for disaster, that's because it is. The fact that Oh No pulls this off is almost as amazing as the 28-track behemoth itself. This album earns its place as Donuts' separated-at-birth twin.

This is a very melodic instrumental album long shared but never posted. Hyakkei deserves more appreciation though, and anyone who enjoys a good melody, occasionally uptempo instrumental, and moving your head to music should get this.
There are two things that inevitably come up in any discussion about Arghoslent: how the band is widely held to be racist (or as they put it, "racially aware"), and how their riffs are fucking fantastic. Arghoslent can be considered "melodic" death metal, but not in a Gothenburg noodling kind of way. There's something special about their oddly bluesy (?) and extremely memorable riffs that makes the band stand out from other death metal acts . For me, this edges out "Hornets of the Pogrom" as their best album, if only by a hair.
